Bookstore Manager

 

Position Overview

Are you passionate about books, community, and leadership? MahoganyBooks, the premier bookstore dedicated to celebrating Black literature and culture, is looking for a dynamic and driven Bookstore Manager to lead our operations. As a Bookstore Manager, you will be at the heart of creating exceptional customer experiences, driving sales, and cultivating a vibrant team environment that reflects our values.

Key Responsibilities

Operations

  • Develop and execute operational strategies to achieve sales goals and maintain operational excellence.
  • Oversee inventory management, including weekly ordering, stock returns, reshelving, and merchandising to meet customer demand and reflect current trends, while adhering to a monthly budget.
  • Ensure compliance with all company policies and procedures, maintaining high standards in safety and cleanliness.

Team Leadership

  • Lead, train, and inspire a team of up to six booksellers, fostering a collaborative and high-performing work environment.
  • Schedule and manage staff shifts, ensuring adequate coverage to meet business needs.
  • Provide coaching and development opportunities, supporting team members in their professional growth.

Customer Engagement

  • Build authentic relationships with bookstore guests, understanding their needs and offering personalized recommendations.
  • Create a welcoming and inclusive environment that enhances the MahoganyBooks literary experience.
  • Actively gather and relay customer feedback to inform business decisions and improve services.

Café Management

  • Oversee all aspects of café operations, including menu development, promotions, and inventory management.
  • Ensure compliance with food safety standards and maintain a clean and inviting café space.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; 5-7 years of experience in either retail, hospitality, or a related field.
  • Proven leadership skills with experience managing a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving abilities, with a focus on accountability and results.
  • Physical ability to perform tasks requiring standing, bending, lifting, and climbing as needed.
  • Availability to work mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, and at offsite events.
