This is a collection of short fiction rooted in the Afro-American experience with no particular theme binding them. The title story, My Only Friend, is a coming-of-age story, although not your average coming-of-age story where the main character is a teen. This one is of a young adult in his twenties. It seemed age-appropriate with people delaying most things these days like leaving home, marrying, and starting families.
